I’ve Got A Brand New Pair Of Legs – Silly as the name may sound, this game is hard

I’ve Got A Brand New Pair Of Legs is the 4th game by Ashley Spencer-Phillips we’ve featured here on Edamame Reviews and this one is probably the hardest of them all. It also may just be the longest named game we have ever reviewed as well, so bonus points there?

Featuring Chris as the main character once again, I’ve Got A Brand New Pair Of Legs is a 2D platformer game with a completely new take on powerups as well as how they function.

At the start of each level, you are given a choice of 3 different pairs of legs to equip Chris with. Each pair has it’s own unique strengths and weaknesses, and in some cases are necessary in order for you to clear the level you are working on. Pretty interesting.

Although we haven’t seen many platformers that so freely give away powerups before the game even begins, we also haven’t seen many games that take those same powerups away so mercilessly. 😱

Your player Chris is essentially given 3 lives per level. Each time you hit obstacles of any kind, you will lose the current pair of legs you are using, and be forced to switch to a different pair. Although at first glance this may seem like a generous move from the developer, there could be nothing further from the truth.

In most of the levels you will be faced with, there are obstacles you can only overcome with a given pair of legs, this means that if you lose those legs before you get to that critical point in the game, it is pretty much Game Over for you and there is literally nothing you can do about it.

Thankfully the levels in this game are all pretty short so you won’t need to worry about investing 10-15 minutes of your time into a level only to discover that it is now unclearable because of a mistake you made 5 minutes earlier…

Lastly, if you happen to have godlike gaming skills and can make it to the end of each level with ease, maybe you would like to go for a 3 star perfect clear? Once you reach the end of each level you will be awarded stars based on how many slices of pizza you managed to feed Chris on your way to the finish line.

So far our best is 2 stars on a level, but we’re getting there… 😂
