Our interview with Akos Makovics and the creators of Air Hockey Championship Deluxe

Here we are, back with another developer interview! This time with Akos Makovics the creator of Air Hockey Championship Deluxe. Before we start we’d like to thank Akos Makovics for participating in our interview and for answering all of our geeky questions! Thanks!

/// Thanks for taking the time to talk to us about Air Hockey Championship Deluxe! Could you kick-start this interview by telling us a little about your studio, yourself, and what drew you into the gaming industry?

We are 2 guys from 2 different countries (Hungary and Germany). I am a software developer, and my partner is a kindergarten teacher. We have been working together on mobile games for many years now, and our latest title is Air Hockey Championship Deluxe – which to be honest, has a <busy title>, we know 😂

/// Ok, let’s start talking about Air Hockey Championship Deluxe. What are the highlights of your latest game?

The game comes with colorful graphics and fluid gameplay. We carefully tried to recreate the thrilling experience of playing air hockey in an arcade.

It has 8 beautiful and diverse air hockey tables, and more are on the way. These tables can be unlocked by completing 70 missions, that will allow players to unlock new themes along the way. The game can be tailored via customizable paddles and pucks for each unique theme.

You can play against your friend or compete against an AI – for which you can set 3 difficulty levels. We also have a championship mode, which will be released in the next update.

/// What was the core idea or inspiration behind Air Hockey Championship Deluxe? And perhaps more importantly, where do you find inspiration for your games in general?

When brainstorming ideas for the next game, we realized our shared love for air hockey. The current air hockey games on the App Store are quite pested with aggressive ads, and our personal favorite didn’t offer the graphical fidelity we wished. So we started to plan a game, where we wanted to offer something that goes beyond a simple good looking air hockey match.

/// How long was Air Hockey Championship Deluxe in development for? And are there any interesting and/or exciting moments or experiences you would like to share with us from that time?

It took more than a year to create the game. The development had its high and low points. Both of us have a full-time job, so sometimes it was stressful. However, it was a great journey, where we both learned a lot.

Edamame: Learning and having fun really is the key 😆

/// What software, developer-tools, or black-magic(?) did you use when making Air Hockey Championship Deluxe? Is there anything you would like to share with the developers who read Edamame Reviews?

We used Unity as the game engine, just like in our past games. It is a really great tool for every type of game.

The development had to be organized, so we used Trello to keep track of our progress (what is done, what needs to be done and what are we working on at the moment). Version control is also really important, so we used Unity’s built-in solution for it, along with Git.

/// Is there any secret “developer-advice” you can give our lucky players who read this interview?

The AI might be hard to beat at first, but if you keep practicing, you can do it. Also, if a mission is hard for you, you can always skip it by watching an Ad 😉

/// What can we expect to see in Air Hockey Championship Deluxe or from Akos Makovics in the not so distant future? What do we have to look forward to next?

We have several updates planned for the game, with a new game mode, and new game tables. We will also release the game to several different platforms and stores.

Apart from this, the brainstorming for the next game has already started, so you can expect something new as well 😁

Edamame: Ooh! We can’t wait to check out what’s next!

/// Lastly, is there anything you would like to say to our awesome team of Writers, Developers, and Supporters who keep Edamame Reviews up and running?

Edamame Reviews is a really great site, with quality content, and good reviews. You clearly put a lot of effort into it.

Edamame: Thank you! ❤️
