Super Hexagon by Terry Cavanagh – Review

Super Hexagon, it’s finally here! Our review of the game we most often quote in our reviews as the hardest game available… For the brave, for the fearless, for those who can afford to buy a new smartphone – you may not have one after playing this game – this is our review of Super Hexagon…

Super Hexagon, this game, for those who don’t know about it, is probably best described as impossible, frustrating, irritating, annoying, offensive, evil, or maybe even “A deadly creation designed with malicious intentions!” To sum things up, this game is a nightmare

If you haven’t heard of or played this game you can still turn back! It’s not too late!

Ok, there’s no saving you now, here comes our review of Super Hexagon…

Starting off on the edge of a small pulsing hexagon, your mission is to avoid getting squashed between larger hexagons, or walls, that fall in toward the ‘center hexagon’, (which is the hexagon your player rests on the edge of.)

Each hexagon, or wall, has at least one opening your player can escape from. This is done by swiveling around the outside edge of the ‘center hexagon’ your player rests on. The concept is pretty simple but as you can probably already tell, this concept could, and did, become a nightmare of a game…

The semi 3D / 2D graphics constantly moving around and forcing you to change perspective, added together with the constantly rotating screen and player, together with the pulsing screen, that never seems to make up its mind about what color it is supposed to be, make playing this game almost impossible…
