What is the minimum line one must cross in order to call something a new “original idea?” When it comes to reviewing games, we look at it like this…
“If your game adds or improves on an existing idea in any way, shape or form, you have something new and of value. Any less and your game doesn’t need to exist.”
Piece It (by Cloud Under) is just a copy of 1010! (by GramGames) redesigned to look a little less minimalistic. “Is the game good?” Of course, it is!
Functionally, this game is on par with 1010! – a game with over 10,000,000 downloads on Google Play alone, so you can expect the gameplay to be good! But since both Piece It and 1010! are free games, there is truly no reason for us (or anyone else) to recommend this game over the original.
At this point we kind of have to ask ourselves, why does this game even exist?
Ok, up until this point we have been super negative so it is time we backtracked a little to the first point we made at the beginning of this review. “What makes a game original?”
Currently, this game is on-par with 1010! which means the important stuff actually kind of starts here. What can Cloud Under deliver in Piece It that players right now don’t get when playing 1010!? Depending on what Cloud Under adds from here onward, this game has both the potential to become something amazingly cool or end up as just another high-quality clone.
Only time will tell.
For now, unless you like reindeer over the minimalistic look, that is pretty much the only valid reason to choose Piece It over 1010! – Hopefully, we’ll get a chance to check back on Piece It sometime within the next few months.
