Leap Day by Nitrome – Review

Do you remember playing Sonic the Hedgehog on your old gameboy, or Nintendo DS before smartphones took over the portable gaming market? For some those old days may seem better than the present… They’re not, and today we’ve got a game to show you a glimpse of the future!

Leap Day is a vertical “platform”/”runner”/”jumper”, an amazing mixture of popular game base designs all mixed together to create something extremely familiar… A vertical version of Sonic the Hedgehog for your smartphone!

Before we continue we need to make one thing clear, Leap Day isn’t Sonic the Hedgehog. Please don’t get these two games mixed up. We’re only using Sonic the Hedgehog because the overall user experience is one and the same!

In Leap Day your goal is to help your player – a bouncy yellow guy – reach the top of a large tower made of platforms by bouncing off walls, jumping over spikes, and jumping on enemies. A lot like the old games we used to play, just with one key difference…

With Leap Day you will be given a new stage to clear every day! Unlike the old games we played where there were 50-100 stages we could choose to play, Leap Day gives you – and everyone else in the world – a new challenge every day!

If you’re stuck in the past, missing your old Gameboy games, here’s a cutting edge game with the same look and feel as the old games you used to play, just 100 times more awesome!

We were extremely excited to have the chance to play a game so new yet so familiar, and expect others to probably feel the same way.

If you’d like a futuristic game to remind you of your childhood, here it is.
