Ink or Swim – Set out on a “Squiddy” adventure!

After 5 years of playing Flappy Bird clones, do you finally think that it’s about time you took on a new challenge? Preferably something that has nothing to do with “Birds?” …have you considered squid yet…?

Ink or Swim (by Valorian Games) is a beautifully pixelated game about a cute squid, golden clams, and a whole collection of obstacles just waiting to put an end to your inky adventures. Set in a narrow ocean passageway filled with sharp coral reefs, deadly jellyfish, and a bunch of WWII naval mines just waiting to explode(!) you’ll need to be extra careful not to bump into anything deadly… Especially considering you only have one life…💀

Played by touching on the left or right sides of the screen in order to swim up and to the left or right, Ink or Swim is a fairly easy game to play, although there is a bit of a learning curve, especially once things start moving fast! Because there is no real way for you to swim down, you’ll need to use gravity to your advantage in order to avoid swimming into something dangerous.

With super-fluid animations, a catchy soundtrack that makes your phone sound like an arcade machine from a Game Center in Japan, and a bunch of different skins for you to unlock that completely re-skin the entire game, (not just your player), you can really appreciate just how much work has been put into making this game both look, feel, and sound fantastic!

…all this being said, it wouldn’t be a fair review if we didn’t mention some of this game’s shortcomings…

Although the gameplay is beautiful, it is definitely a little repetitive. With a very limited number of obstacles, this game isn’t for players who are constantly after a new and more exciting challenge. Maybe, you should check out Leap Day instead? – a new challenge every day!

In addition to repetitive gameplay, Ink or Swim does feature quite a few Ads which isn’t bad or surprising, however, it can sometimes get a little annoying…

Other than these two points, Ink or Swim is a really nice little game we expect a lot of players will really enjoy!

The Conclusion

If you’re a fan of pixel art, you are going to enjoy looking at this game! We have been following the development of Ink or Swim on Twitter from the early stages of development, and we must say the final product didn’t disappoint us!

As we said above, a little repetitive, but very fun overall!
