Force Escape interview with Studio Rouleau

Did you enjoy our review of Force Escape? A game about a small round spaceship and The Force! Today, we would like to share our interview with the team of developers who turned this game into a reality, and who made gaming like a Jedi just a little easier while on the go. 🚗

If you haven’t read our review yet you can do so here!

Before we start we’d like to thank the Studio Rouleau Team for participating in our interview and for answering all of our geeky questions! Thanks Guys!

…and without further ado, our interview begins…

The Interview

Thanks for taking the time to talk to us about Force Escape, could you kick-start this interview by telling us a little about your studio and what drew you into Game Development?

Sure, Studio Rouleau Inc started as a User Interface Development company and has worked on popular games such as Bioshock Infinite, Mafia III, World of Tanks, and many others. Force Escape is the first independent release by Studio Rouleau and was kind of a test run for future releases.

First question. What was the core idea (or inspiration) that sparked the development of Force Escape?

Pretty much the goal was to create a quick arcade-style game with a subtle sci-fi background that had an endless feel to it, but could actually be beaten.

What were the hardest problems you faced during the different development stages of Force Escape?

Both the biggest boon and problem was the Buildbox development environment. It forced a narrow scope to the game (good), but also required a lot of out of the box thinking in order to get the software to do something it wasn’t originally intended to do (not so good).

For our nerdy Developer Fans, what programming language and or software did you use when developing Force Escape? And was it a good decision?

Buildbox was used for development. For a first release, it was a great software to use to hit all the bases for a minimal game like Force Escape.

What advice would you give to a new player trying Force Escape for the first time?

Keep your finger below the force icon, not directly on top of it. Use careful movements rather than erratic large swipes. Learning the levels takes time and practice– but it is a game that rewards your efforts.

Where do you get your inspiration or ideas from?

A life full of gaming and reading!

A few words to Force Escape fans on Edamame Reviews. Any new games in the near future? What can we look forward to next?

The next game is set to release in January, stay tuned for an official announcement soon!

Lastly a few words on how you feel about Edamame Reviews and our service.

Any site that takes the time to review the smaller games out there on the market is doing a great service to all gamers and developers. Thanks for your efforts!
