Candies ‘n Curses – The perfect mixture of cute and spooky!

Are you a fan of pixel art in mobile games? Although not every studio has the skill or techniques required to make pixels (seemingly) come alive, the studios who do (or should we say the designers who do) create arguably some of the coolest graphics you could ever have in a video game!

Candies ‘n Curses (by Crescent Moon Games and TAKO BOY STUDIOS) is not only a game designed and developed by two studios with incredibly long names, but it is also one of the prettiest games we will likely see before the end of 2018.

Set in a beautifully pixelated 2D world, Candies ‘n Curses features an almost cinematic experience with a surprisingly long backstory comic, and all the detail you could want in a spooky 2D adventure! Doing our best not to spoil too much of the story, the game starts with you, (a courageous young girl named Molli Pop), your flashlight, and a spooky mansion filled with ghostly creatures of the night!

With a similar feel and play style to games such as Magic Mansion and Tower Fortress both by Nitrome, Candies ‘n Curses features a lot of similarities with quite a few games from Nitrome we have reviewed in the past which isn’t a bad thing considering just how good they are!

Played by swiping up or down on the screen of your device in order to jump between the 4 floors of the mansion, as well as left or right in order to change the direction in which your player faces, Candies ‘n Curses is incredibly easy to learn and play yet surprisingly challenging to win – or “master” as every developer likes to call it.

With an endless supply of enemies just waiting to spook you, it is surprisingly difficult to keep a hold of your 5 lives long enough to get even close to completing the final boss battle!

Luckily this game features tons of upgrades you can use to power up Molli and her flashlight which should make the game a little easier to play over time…

The Conclusion

Whoops! We just realized we completely forgot to talk about the beautiful pixel art in this game… 😩 If you’re a fan of pixel graphics Candies ‘n Curses features some of the cleanest most well-animated pixel graphics we have seen in months!

Add these graphics with everything we mentioned in our (almost) full review above and what do you get? Mind Blown! 🤯
