Brickies by Ink Vial Games – Review

So have you ever played Breakout? If you haven’t there’s an easy way to try it. Type into google “Atari Breakout” and then hit images. The awesome little game that appears is most commonly known as Breakout, and is often one of the first games new game developers ever make.

Brickies is basicly a newer version of Breakout, with better graphics, and power ups to make things just that little bit more awesome!

Starting off in the same way as every other Breakout game – with your ball on your paddle – your mission in this game is to eliminate all the cute Brickies, that either smile, or frown – we can’t tell which – down at you by hitting them with your ball and eliminating them. This can prove to be surprisingly hard to do and so, powerups will probably soon become your best friend.

Two key differences from the original are the fact that your ball doesn’t die when you miss hitting it with your racket, and the new added time limit in which you must destroy everything. When you miss a hit in Brickies, instead of instantly “GameOver” your ball will turn red, and continue to bounce around the stage, although, during this time every hit your ball makes is nullified and won’t eliminate anything. This is a huge amount of damage when playing a game with a time limit, and may make this game more difficult than the original.

If you like retro games mixed in with a little modern flavoring, Brickies is a nifty little game you’ll probably want to add to your applications folder.
